What is Outlook Social Connector
Outlook Social Connector (OSC) is an add-on for Microsoft Outlook which allows users to connect to and receive updates from different social networks inside the outlook. When a user opens an email, a name, picture, and title of the person they are contacting, shows up right into Outlook. Other information i.e. upcoming appointments, status updates, recently posted files can also be viewed using outlook social connector
How it works
When a user opens an email, the Outlook Social Connector (OSC) displays information such as past messages and attachments from the people in that Conversation. If a connection to a social network exists and user is logged into that social network, the Outlook Social Connector asks the social network for information about those people. Information can include photos, status updates, activity feeds, and profile information (name, title, e-mail address, etc.)
Depending on the build of social network add-in, when viewing a message, the Outlook Social Connector may ask the social network for information about everyone on the To and Cc lines of the message. Social networks can only match an e-mail address of a person who is already known on the social network. This information can be saved in Outlook for offline use
Supported Social Networks
For the current release of OSC, the following connectors are available.
